Amazon is expected to unveil a lineup of new devices in the coming days (likely 30 September), but the company may have revealed more than intended a little early.
An update to its developer documentation briefly listed hardware specifications, which mentioned a Fire TV with 4GB of RAM & 32GB of internal storage.
Interestingly, no existing Fire TV matches those specifications. The current top model (3rd-generation Fire TV Cube released in 2022) has 2GB of RAM & 16GB of storage.
Based on the leak, it appears Amazon is preparing to launch a 4th-generation Fire TV Cube. If true, the device would double the memory and storage of its predecessor.
Google’s Chromecast with Google TV has just 2GB RAM and 8GB storage, while Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Even NVIDIA’s Shield TV Pro lags behind with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. So, with these leaked specs, Amazon looks ready to reclaim a performance edge in the streaming space.
However, whether the upgraded Fire TV will continue running Android-based Fire OS or shift to the company’s upcoming Vega OS remains an open question.
For those who don’t know, while Fire OS has long been a fork of Android, shifting to Vega would give Amazon full control over updates, app integration, and system features without the limitations of Android compatibility.
